Durham: Releasing the Silenced Dragon

Arriving in a City of Young Voices

We arrived in Durham and chose to walk from the train station to our hotel, letting the city meet us slowly, one step at a time. All around us were students, young voices, and the movement of university life. Durham felt alive with youth and history at once, a place where the old and the new seemed to share the same narrow streets. When we learned that Durham Cathedral was open, we decided to visit and take in the architecture. We had no idea that the beauty of the building would become the doorway into something much deeper.

The Cathedral and the First Sign

Inside the cathedral, we moved slowly through the different spaces, pausing to sit in stillness and meditation. The architecture was breathtaking, but it was not only the beauty that held us. We felt guided from one area to the next, as if the building itself were leading us through its hidden layers. Near the back, I, Gayle Lynn, stood in silence and suddenly received the image of a dragon. I felt dragon energy rise within me, ancient and powerful, yet there was sorrow in it too. The dragon felt silenced, captive within the grounds of the cathedral. The feeling moved through my whole body, and I could do nothing but witness it. As we continued toward the exit, we passed a back corner where the energy became intensely dissonant. A wave of nausea overtook me so strongly that I thought I might vomit. We moved away quickly and left the building. On the walk back to the hotel, I shared everything with Erik, and later we sat in meditation, listening for guidance. Nothing came immediately, so we let it rest and waited to see what would unfold.

The Throat That Needed to Speak

In the middle of the night, the message moved into my body. I woke with my throat painfully sore, the kind of raw, closing sensation I associate with strep throat. It felt disturbing and urgent, as though something inside me wanted to be released but had not yet found a way out. I woke Erik and told him what was happening, and we went into meditation to listen through the throat chakra. I did not know what needed to be expressed, only that something was pressing against the silence. Then, through a powerful release, a scream came from deep within my body. It carried the pain in my throat and the weight of ancestral shame that had been held there. Afterward, Erik asked if I was ready to return and release the dragon that had been silenced. I understood immediately. What is within is without. The dragon was not separate from me. It was asking to be freed.

Returning to Release the Dragon

We returned to the cathedral with reverence. Our guides instructed us to begin in the chapel, so we sat there in silence until we felt the guardians allow us to continue. When the way opened, we moved slowly toward the area where I had felt the dragon’s presence. Along the way, I was prompted to stop and sit again, waiting for permission to move forward. Nothing about it felt rushed. It felt ceremonial, precise, and deeply sacred. When we reached the place beneath which I sensed the dragon was held, Erik and I joined hands. Golden-white crystalline energy entered through our divine gateway chakras, moved through our fields, and flowed into the area beneath the building. We held our focus there with the intention of releasing the dragon. As we worked, the Lord’s Prayer came over the speakers. When it ended, I felt the release. A wave of immense gratitude moved through the space, and even more energy opened through my throat chakra. Something that had been held in silence for a very long time felt heard at last.

We also returned to the area where I had become nauseous the day before. There, I felt the presence of unheard truths, and the heaviness of many lies that had been carried within the walls. Again, we entered silence and allowed energy to move through us into the building until the nausea lifted. By the time the work felt complete, there was a quietness in me that had not been there before. The cathedral no longer felt the same. Something had shifted.

The Dragon Reveals Itself

As we were leaving and walking through the cloisters, I heard the words, “Look for the dragon.” I had not noticed any dragons while we were inside the cathedral, but in that moment I looked up and saw one painted on a miniature shield on the ceiling. Excitement moved through me instantly. It felt like confirmation of everything we had experienced. Then, as if the Universe wanted to make sure we truly received the message, we walked outside and found a wooden bench with a dragon carved into it. The signs kept coming. Near the exit, there was a bookstore, and I wanted something to help me remember the day. I searched for anything with a dragon on it but found nothing. I asked Erik to keep an eye out, and moments later he tapped me on the shoulder and led me to a cabinet holding one tiny silver dragon, no bigger than a fifty-cent piece. My whole face lit up. I love the thank-you notes the Universe leaves behind. The little signs are never little to me. They are the sacred echoes that say, “Yes. This happened. You were guided. The release was real.”
